BITDEER
Data Center/Fox Creek

Fox Creek, Alberta, Canada

Bitdeer Fox Creek in Canada is our first vertically integrated facility. It pairs on-site natural gas power generation with high-performance computing, built on a fully permitted energy asset originally developed by Kiwetinohk Energy. Designed for Bitcoin mining today and AI workloads tomorrow, the project reflects Bitdeer's conviction that the future of high-performance computing begins with securing the power that runs it.

Why This Project Is Being Built Here

Fox Creek offers the energy, infrastructure, and operating environment required for large-scale computing.

Bitdeer's decision to establish Canadian operations in Fox Creek reflects confidence in both the region and the province. Situated in the Municipal District of Greenview No.16, the region is home to a forward-thinking municipal government, supportive community, skilled workforce, and a long history in Alberta's energy sector providing a strong local foundation. Bitdeer's investment also represents the kind of economic diversification of monetizing natural gas assets in the region. Alberta's broader advantages are compelling: an attractive investment climate, regulatory clarity, policy stability, abundant natural gas resources, and strong prospects for long-term economic growth. Alberta's abundant natural gas resources, established grid connectivity, and deregulated electricity market provide meaningful operational flexibility for a vertically integrated operator. This includes the ability to curtail bitcoin mining data center operations and sell power back to the grid during periods of peak demand to support provincial grid stability while optimizing energy use. For Bitdeer, the Fox Creek facility represents a strategic long-term investment in a jurisdiction aligned with the future of energy-powered computing infrastructure.

Environmental Responsibility

Bitdeer is committed to responsible infrastructure development, with environmental performance integrated into the design of the Fox Creek project. Bitdeer plans to deploy a system to capture and utilize CO₂ emissions from on-site power generation. This approach is intended to reduce the facility's overall carbon intensity and support lower-emission operations over time, while also positioning the project to offset applicable carbon obligations under Canadian regulations. The facility will also employ a dry-cooling system that uses a closed-loop process to remove heat from equipment through heat exchangers and fans, eliminating the need for continuous water consumption. This design results in negligible operational water use, minimizing demand on local water resources. The facility's integrated design — generating and consuming power on-site — further reduces transmission losses and supports more efficient energy use overall. All operations will be conducted in accordance with applicable provincial environmental requirements, including air quality and noise standards, with ongoing assessments to ensure compliance as the project progresses.

Governance and Regulation

The Fox Creek project is being developed within a fully regulated Alberta, Canada framework and will operate under oversight spanning energy generation, grid integration, environmental protection, and land use. The project builds on the established regulatory and permitting foundation developed by its original developer, Kiwetinohk Energy. Key regulatory authorities include: · Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) · Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) · Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) Bitdeer is working closely with the Town of Fox Creek, the Municipal District of Greenview, and the relevant First Nations communities whose traditional territories include the project area. Our focus is on transparency, respect, and long-term collaboration.
