Curt Moore (IBEW Local 540): "We live in the Rust Belt, correct? And where's the steel industry going? It's... it's gone. Now we're in the digital revolution, and we need to capitalize that event and turn these brown sites back into economic drivers in our communities. With local 540, we represent roughly 1,200—a little over 1,200 active and retired members. With a project of this sort being implemented on a brown site in our jurisdiction's phenomenal, because you're providing economic development in a site that was literally sitting dormant and doing nothing."
Jon Wonsettler (Site Manager, Bitdeer): "At our peak, we had over 300 construction employees helping to build the site, from electricians to pipefitters and plumbers, etc. On the long-term jobs impact side, I think our number will be somewhere between 50 and 60 full-time jobs once it's all said and done, and those represent next-generation type jobs that technical folks around here want."
James Steele, Jr. (Operations Manager, Bitdeer): "I started out at the Texas facility. So five years ago, got hired there as a tech, really just doing labor work, putting miners on the shelf, learning how to turn the miners and configure them and stuff like that. But yeah, I moved up here because I see all the opportunities with Bitdeer."
James Steele, Jr. (Operations Manager, Bitdeer): "As we got under construction, we really started interacting with the public and they really started understanding like, 'We're not just here to take your power and land. We're here to be a neighbor.' So, it really lays the way for other companies to come in and do the same thing as long as they follow our footsteps and put being a good neighbor first."
Tony Clark (President, Great Oaks Engineering): "I only hear positive things about Bitdeer's involvement, their give back to the community. The leadership really takes time to understand what the community needs, what the people want, and kind of designing around that as opposed to 'This is our way or the highway.' So, it's been a really cool collaboration."
Alex Williamson (CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Massillon): "They really do want to be here and they want to be a part of all of the good things that are happening here. They want to reinvest in our youth, our vets, just everyone in general. When you have companies like Bitdeer that want to help support the STEM programming that we're providing kids at the Boys and Girls Club, it just goes a longer way having that professional expertise in the room, offering advice."
James Steele, Jr. (Operations Manager, Bitdeer): "We try to be there and support because the local community is very important to not just Bitdeer, but the employees of Bitdeer. We live here, we interact with the economy here. So it's important for us to support where we can."
Jon Wonsettler (Site Manager, Bitdeer): "Bitdeer invested a lot of money, a lot of capital into this facility. So we plan to be here for quite some time, decades into the future. And what that means is good high-paying jobs for our employees. What that means is good tax revenue for schools, fire, police, safety, etc. When I look years down the road, I see Bitdeer still serving the community locally. I think that's what it looks like into the future: us continuing to give back and do what's right for the community."
