Decentralized solar infrastructure project Daylight has secured $75 million in funding to expand its distributed solar grid across the United States. The DePIN startup offers solar power through a subscription model, eliminating the need for costly panel installations that can exceed $30,000. Launched in 2024, Daylight’s testnet enables users to earn “sun points” by contributing energy back to the grid, with plans for a future token launch. Investors include a16z Crypto, Framework Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, M13, Room40 Ventures, EV3, and Turtle Hill Capital.

Bitdeer announced that it allowed its LOI with a development partner to expire in September, signaling a strategic shift toward directly managing its HPC/AI data center expansion. The company is now engaging with potential tenants, EPC partners, and in-house experts to develop proprietary AI data centers across sites in Clarington, Tydal, and Wenatchee. Meanwhile, Bitdeer completed the tape-out of its first SEAL04 chip, achieving notable efficiency gains, and began mass production of SEALMINER A3 rigs with 12.5 J/TH efficiency. The company’s self-mining hashrate reached 35 EH/s, remaining on track for 40 EH/s by the end of October.

The US Senate has advanced the Guaranteeing Access and Innovation for National Artificial Intelligence Act of 2026 (GAIN Act) under the National Defense Authorization framework. The legislation requires AI and high-performance chipmakers to fulfill domestic orders before exporting advanced processors abroad. It also grants Congress authority to deny export licenses for top-tier AI chips and mandates licensing for all products containing advanced integrated circuits. The move comes amid ongoing chip shortages, with Nvidia’s Blackwell line reportedly booked 12 months ahead in late 2024.

Kazakhstan’s Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) has closed 130 crypto platforms tied to money laundering and seized $16.7 million in digital assets. The crackdown, part of an ongoing campaign against financial crimes, comes despite the nation’s overall pro-crypto stance. AFM also recently confiscated $642,000 from illegal mining operations, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s dual approach of promoting regulated crypto growth while curbing illicit use.

New York State Senator Liz Krueger has proposed a bill introducing a tiered excise tax on electricity used by crypto miners. Under the plan, operations using under 2.25 million kWh per year would be exempt, while those consuming over 20 million kWh annually would face a 5¢ per kWh tax. The bill aims to address environmental concerns and rising energy demands linked to large-scale mining.
